At Stena Recycling’s facility in Halmstad, Helios Innovations installed its first full-scale demonstration plant in 2023 — creating a platform for developing and testing new technology while treating process water from multiple industrial sources.
Halmstad, Sweden
Process water from various industries contains substances that are difficult to treat with conventional technology. Many flows carry high alternative costs and generate large waste volumes if left untreated.
A full-scale demonstration plant powered by residual heat — continuously treating mixed industrial water streams while serving as a testbed for next-generation purification materials.

The plant handles difficult-to-treat water streams and achieves consistently high purification performance — including PFAS, heavy metals, and mixed industrial contaminants.
Testing and demonstration of new materials and components enables technology development for future installations across Europe.
The plant can receive water from different industrial flows and adapts to variation in contamination levels — making it a versatile tool for multiple customers.
Through the collaboration with Stena Recycling, the plant can also be used to receive and treat incoming process water from Stena’s customers. This allows the technology to be tested and optimised in practical operation while more industrial flows gain access to effective water treatment.
The collaboration strengthens both Stena Recycling’s capacity to handle difficult-to-treat industrial water and Helios Innovations’ ability to develop the next generation of solutions for a sustainable and resource-efficient industry.
